Unlike our PDF and image tools, PDF to Word runs on our server, so the document leaves your device. Your PDF is converted in memory and never written to storage. Only the Word file is kept privately for up to an hour so you can download it, then deleted. No document text is stored or logged; the only name kept is the download name for your result, which is deleted with it.
What to expect from the Word file
You get the document's text in reading order as editable paragraphs, with one page break per PDF page. Columns, tables, images, headers and footers are not rebuilt — this is a text conversion, not a pixel-perfect layout copy. Scanned PDFs have no text to read, so they aren't supported until text recognition arrives.

Convert a PDF into an editable .docx file you can open in Word, Google Docs or Pages. Convertora reads the document's text layer and writes it back as ordinary paragraphs in reading order, with a page break for each PDF page. Frequently asked questions
- Will the Word file look exactly like my PDF?
- No, and we won't pretend otherwise. You get the text in the right order as editable paragraphs with page breaks. Multi-column layouts, tables, images, headers and footers are not reconstructed. If layout fidelity matters more than editability, keep the PDF or export page images instead.
- Does it work with scanned documents?
- Not yet. A scan is a picture of text, so there is nothing to extract. You'll get a clear message rather than an empty document. Text recognition (OCR) is on the roadmap.
- Is my file uploaded?
- Yes — this conversion cannot be done reliably in a browser, so the PDF is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on our server. The PDF is converted in memory and never written to storage; only the Word result is held privately for up to an hour so you can download it, then deleted. Download links are signed and expire after a couple of minutes.
- What is recorded about my conversion?
- The tool used, the file size, the page count, how long it took and whether it succeeded. No document text is logged or kept. The only name we hold is the download name for your result, which is deleted together with the file within the hour.
- Is there a size limit?
- The free plan converts documents up to 10 MB and 50 pages; Pro raises that to 25 MB and 200 pages. Larger documents can be split first with our Split PDF tool, which runs entirely in your browser.
