Unlike our PDF and image tools, PDF to Excel runs on our server, so the document leaves your device. Your PDF is converted in memory and never written to storage. Only the spreadsheet is kept privately for up to an hour so you can download it, then deleted. No document text is stored or logged; the only name kept is the download name for your result, which is deleted with it.
What to expect from the spreadsheet
Table rows and columns are rebuilt from where the text sits on the page, so each value lands in its own cell — including tables that continue over a page break. Colours, borders, merged cells, images and formulas are not reproduced, ordinary paragraphs stay as plain rows of text, and nothing is guessed: a value the PDF doesn't contain is left blank. Scanned PDFs have no text to read, so they aren't supported until text recognition arrives.

Convert a PDF into a real .xlsx workbook you can open in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. Convertora looks at where every piece of text sits on the page, works out which lines form table rows and which positions form columns, and writes each value into its own cell. Tables that carry on over a page break are joined and a repeated header row isn't duplicated as data. It rebuilds data, not looks: colours, borders, merged cells, images and formulas are not reproduced, ordinary paragraphs stay as plain rows of text, and nothing is ever guessed — a value the PDF doesn't contain is left blank. How it works

Frequently asked questions
- Will my table come out with the right rows and columns?
- For tables with reasonably consistent column positions, yes — each value lands in its own cell, in the original order, including tables that continue onto later pages. Where the layout is too irregular to be sure, we keep the line as plain text in one cell rather than inventing cells that were never there.
- Are my numbers changed?
- No. The printed value is preserved exactly. Plain numbers become real Excel numbers; anything with a currency, a percent sign, thousands separators or a date format stays exactly as printed, because converting it could change what it says.
- What about ordinary text and reports in two or three columns?
- Narrative text is not forced into a table. Two- and three-column articles are kept as readable lines of text, because document columns are not table columns.
- Does it work with scanned documents?
- Not yet. A scan is a picture of a table, so there is nothing to read. You get a clear message instead of an empty spreadsheet. Text recognition (OCR) is on the roadmap.
- Is my file uploaded?
- Yes — the PDF is uploaded over HTTPS and processed on our server. It is converted in memory and never written to storage; only the spreadsheet is held privately for up to an hour so you can download it, then deleted. Download links are signed and expire after a couple of minutes.
