Why merge PDFs?

Many forms and portals accept only one file. Merging lets you send an application, its ID copy and supporting letters as a single document. It also keeps related paperwork together, such as a month of invoices or the chapters of a report, so nobody opens the files in the wrong order.

Step by step

  1. 1Open Merge PDF and add at least two PDFs, one after another, in the order you want them to appear.
  2. 2Check the list. If a file is in the wrong place, remove it and add it again; it moves to the end.
  3. 3Remove any file you don't need. The list order becomes the page order of the finished document.
  4. 4Merge and download one combined PDF.

Planning the page order

Because the order comes from the order you add files, it helps to decide it first. A simple trick is to rename the files 1, 2, 3 on your device, then add them in that order. For a long set, merge in a couple of smaller batches and then merge the results.

Quality and file size

Merging copies pages exactly as they are. Nothing is re-encoded, so text stays selectable and images keep their original quality. The finished file is roughly the size of all the originals added together. If it's too large to email, see the guide on reducing PDF file size.

Tidy up afterwards

Blank or duplicate pages: open the merged file in Delete PDF pages, tick the pages to remove, and download the trimmed version.

Need only part of it: Split PDF can save a range such as 1-3, 7 as a new document, or every page as its own file.

Common problems

A file is refused: password-protected PDFs can't be combined. Remove the password, then add the file again.

Your device slows down: there's no fixed limit on the number of files, but very large sets depend on your device's memory. Merge in smaller batches.

Privacy

Merging happens in your browser, so your documents stay on your device the whole time.

Good habits for merged documents

Put a cover page or the most important document first. Reviewers often only look at page one.

Check that scans face the right way before merging. If a page is sideways, fix it with Rotate PDF first, so you don't have to fix the merged file.

Give the final file a clear name, such as Surname-Application-2026.pdf, so it's easy to find in an inbox or portal.

Open the merged PDF once before sending it and scroll through every page to confirm the order.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a size limit for merging?

Each PDF can be up to 100 MB. There's no fixed number of files; the practical limit is your device's memory.

Does merging reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, so text, images and fonts are identical to the originals.

Can I drag files into a new order?

Not at the moment. Add files in the order you want, or remove a file and add it again to move it to the end.

Can I merge images and PDFs together?

Turn the images into a PDF first with JPG to PDF, then merge that PDF with the others.
